
Civil law in the United Kingdom is quite a different breed from the criminal law of the nation.
Civil law is primarily concerned with the rights and the properties of each individual, people or organizations that may not protected under the criminal law.
It is the primary duty of civil law to settle disputes that may arise between individuals and organizations.
Civil law in the United Kingdom does not have provisions that send people to prisons; instead, it includes providing compensations for victims. Such that the people charged under the civil law may be left out of pocket if they are found to be liable for compensation.
The individual who begins a civil case is the claimant, and the burden is on him or her to prove that the other party (or defendant) more often than not committed a civil wrong.
If the claimant happens to be successful in the claim, then the usual remedy for the civil wrong, as mentioned above, is damages, which refers to the sum of money the defendant makes to the claimant.
Another remedy that can be made available in some cases is the court order, which disallows a person from acting in a certain way(s) toward other individuals, people, or organizations.

Civil law cases are often focused on determining whether the accused person or organization, which is the defendant in this situation has a duty of care towards the claimant.
For instance, an employer has a duty of care towards his or her employee, such that when an employee becomes injured at work, a solicitor who specializes on cases involving personal injury should be hired.
He or she has to be able to prove that there was indeed a breach in the duty of care on the part of the employer and this duty led to the injury of the complainant.
An individual who believes that another individual or organization has committed a civil wrong against them is permitted to complete a claim form and then forward it to the appropriate court.
The County Court, which has over 200 locations deals with cases that involve claims less than £25,000 and claims less than £50,000 when it results in injury to a person.
The London High Court hears the majority of the higher value vases in the nation.
Only one judge hears the cases in both the County and High Courts.
